Web Soil Survey

The USGS National Map
The National Map is a consistent framework for geographic knowledge needed by the Nation. It provides public access to high-quality, geospatial data and information from multiple partners to help support decisionmaking by resource managers and the public. The National Map is the product of a consortium of Federal, State, and local partners who provide geospatial data to enhance America's ability to access, integrate, and apply geospatial data at global, national, and local scales.
The Soil Science Encyclopedia
This Soil Science Encyclopedia is an open-source effort using the wiki model to develop educational materials that can be adopted universally by natural resource and environmental science educators. The driving force of this series of documents is the inevitable evolution that occurs in the wiki and open-source communities. The wiki approach allows for different perspectives to be introduced into the "knowledge base", and amazingly, through the entire process the information undergoes a rather untraditional peer-review.

Substance of Life: Soil

The Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) is working with the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC, to plan a soils exhibit as part of their Forces of Change Program. The exhibit is scheduled to open in 2008. In the meantime, sit back and enjoy the  newly released, two-minute, inspirational, visionary video, produced for SSSA by Greener Grass Productions (www.greener-grass.com). It's a "big picture," emotionally moving piece that carries a similar feel to what the Soil exhibit at the Smithsonian Institute will evoke.
