Soil scientists were an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team that designed and engineered the Beacon Reach, a 750-acre coastal resort on North Carolina's Bogue Banks for the Theodore Roosevelt Estate.  The soil scientists were primarily involved in developing new creative wastewater treatment and disposal technologies to significantly minimize the disturbance to the maritime forest and thereby better protect the fragile island during tropical storm events.
